Imagine a deep and mysterious wood, centuries old and long since comfortable in its own tempo and rhythms. A tiny sprite peeks around a tree trunk, eyes darting to and fro, searching. Satisfied, she turns her back to the tree and settles onto the soft carpet of leaves and loam. Her eyes lock now onto the curling leaf in her hands. Only the size of a half-dollar, the leaf is nearly as big as she is herself.

In her mind’s eye, Maureen Worth, the founding designer of Sylvan Spirit, can not only see the sprite, she is the sprite. Guided by her imagination, she shapes her clay leaf to show off its intricate veining. The neatly serrated edges are curved to lead the eye from tip to stem where a small blossom emerges from the design. Around and around they go until the entire circumference of a wedding tiara is complete.

Rebecca Worthdaughter, partner and fellow sprite—shares the vision that lies at the foundation of these unique and delightful designs. Both designers revel in the creation of flowing organic designs that capture nature’s wealth. Maureen, with her love of miniatures and an eye for exquisite detail, and Rebecca, with her gift for seeing the possibilities and unerring instinct for getting there, work together in an amazing collaboration of style and design.

One will conceive an idea, the other will add a twist that will spark yet another thought. Back and forth, the energy builds. When an idea takes hold, laughs Rebecca, “we both run with it.” Favorite design themes quickly expand into a series of complementary jewlery pieces. Today’s pieces include signature wedding tiaras, hair combs and ornaments as well as earrings, pendants and bracelets. Sylvan Spirit tiaras can also be worn as neck rings, making them an accessory that serves long after the wedding.

Hand-finished with pearlescent or metallic-sheen overtones these pieces capture an incredible depth of color and richness of texture. Says Maureen, “Each piece is its own person.” Each one speaks to the Sylvan Spirits that are always close and always closely listening.
